Money Smart Week 2010!

Your Winnebago County Money Smart Week steering committee has again been working hard to put together a local Money Smart Week program for kids and adults.

You may recall that Money Smart Week Wisconsin is an ongoing social awareness campaign and the first statewide event of its kind in the country. It was created by the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy which Governor Jim Doyle formed to advise him about
how to improve financial literacy in Wisconsin. It is modeled closely after similar
promotions run by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in the cities of Chicago and
Detroit. Wisconsin’s initiative has the support of the Federal Reserve Banks of both
Chicago and Minneapolis.

This year Money Smart Week Wisconsin will be held October 2nd-9th. Check out local event offerings by visiting:
http://moneysmartwi.org/WinnebagoCounty/

Or print a PDF copy of the calendar of events here!

Please encourage everyone you know to attend! These events are FREE and cover a wide range of topics.

Affordable Housing Dwindles As Need Grows - Tonight's Talk of the Nation

Talk of the Nation on National Public Radio will be hosting a show on public housing programing in the wake of Atlanta Housing Authority opening their waiting list. If you’d like to hear a national overview of program perceptions this should be an interesting and valuable show.

Here is the link to the Talk of the Nation story on low-income housing:
www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129233128

Audio for this story from Talk of the Nation will be available at approx. 6:00 p.m. ET tonight.

About the show:

Affordable Housing Dwindles As Need Grows - August 16, 2010

Guests: Dean Faust, Adjunct Professor Of Journalism, Emory University; Linda Couch, Senior Vice President For Policy, National Low Income Housing Coalition

Overview: Funding for low-income housing has been falling for years. And nationwide, many public housing units have been torn down. The wait for housing vouchers in some cities can now last a decade, just as the recession has left more Americans struggling to pay the rent.
