Veteran Housing Program - Appleton

Email received:

The Appleton Housing Authority is excited to launch our HUD VASH Voucher Program for Veterans. If you encounter a veteran in need of housing and housing assistance please refer them to the Appleton VA Clinic located at 10 Tri-Park Way, Appleton, WI 54914. Phone number is 831-0070. Office hours are M-F 8:00 am to 4:30 PM. The VA Clinic will make the determination if they qualify for a VASH Voucher and the services the VA Clinic would provide while on the program. The VA Clinic then refers the individual or family to Appleton Housing Authority for income screening for the Voucher Rental Assistance.

Please do not have them fill out the Appleton Housing Authority applications, just simply refer them to the VA Clinic for a VASH Voucher Referral.

Any question, please let me know.

HUD Charges WI Property Managers with Discrimination

HUD CHARGES WISCONSIN PROPERTY MANAGERS WITH DISCRIMINATING AGAINST A FAMILY BECAUSE THEY HAVE CHILDREN

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced that it has charged Sharlene and Jerald Kuiper, managers of a three-bedroom duplex apartment in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, and the owner of the apartment, Kuiper Family Trust, with violating the Fair Housing Act by refusing to show an available apartment to a family with children. HUD’s charge alleges that the Kuipers falsely asserted that the unit was unavailable for viewing when it was, offered to show units only after families without children rejected them, and made discriminatory statements demonstrating a preference for renters without children.

The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination based on family status, including making statements that indicate a preference for renters without children or a limitation against families with children.

SOAR currently works in 34 states and has replicated a model that has resulted in success rates on initial application of 71 percent compared to the usual 10-15 percent for applicants who are homeless.
