Day By Day Warming Shelter Needs Volunteers
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
The Day by Day Warming Shelter will be opening its doors on October 17th. Located in downtown Oshkosh, this facility will be open mid October through mid-April, seven days a week from 8 pm - 8 am.
The shelter is in need of volunteers to help in various ways. One area of need is volunteer groups to make ready to serve meals and deliver them to the shelter between 7:00 – 7:45 each night. Meals need to be available to guests from 8:00 – 9:00. Specific directions on how to volunteer for a meal are available.
Volunteers are also needed to supervise shifts with staff overnight. Shifts are 7-10 pm, 10 pm – 1 am, 1 – 4 am, and 4 – 8 am. Duties may include guest orientation, clean up, breakfast-in-a-bag prep, laundry general staff assistance.

GET CHECKING October 11, 2011
Get Checking will be offered Tuesday, October 11, 2011, from 6:00-9:00PM at UW Credit Union located at 748 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh, WI. The educational program can help those such as young adults who have not yet opened a checking account, or provide a fresh start to consumers who have had past problems with their account. Consumers, who successfully complete the course, receive a certificate that they may take to any of the participating financial institutions and an account is opened under agreed-upon conditions.
Participating Winnebago County Financial Institutions include: M & I Bank, Citizens First Credit Union, Capital Credit Union, Community First Credit Union, UW Credit Union, and Wells Fargo Bank.
Pre-registration is requested by calling the Winnebago County UW-Extension office at 920-232-1970 or e-mail kristi.cutts@ces.uwex.edu. Also, registration brochures are available at participating financial institutions and the Winnebago County UW-Extension office in Oshkosh. Please note the cost of attending the class is $20 per person.

Emergency Shelter- Debra Cronmiller has completed her position. The Board will begin the search for a new executive director. Housing First has lost its funding and has disbanded. Partner agencies COTS, Housing Partnership, and Ryan Community stepped forward and has found funding to help maintain housing for those in the Housing First Program.

You are invited to an Open Housing honoring the opening of Day by Day Warming Shelter. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 13, 2011 in the lower level of the gym building at Most Blessed Sacrament, 449 High Avenue, Oshkosh.
