Good afternoon,
Thank
you so much to everyone who is actively involved in the small monthly
Outreach Days for our homeless guests. Being able to bring the resources
to them in one place helps with their efforts in becoming
self-sufficient and helping them address their needs. In January,
instead of the small Outreach Days, we host a large community wide
resource fair, and below is our invitation for you and your agency to be
present!
What is the Point In Time (PIT) Count?
The Point-In-Time count is conducted twice a year
(January and July)
to capture a snapshot of what homelessness looks like in each state,
city, and neighborhood. The data collected through the Point-in-Time
process is reported in the Annual Homelessness Assessment Report (AHAR)
that is provided to the U.S. Congress. Homeless information is also
reported to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development,
which is then utilized to develop the Housing Inventory Chart for the
Balance of State Continuum of Care. This information allows
homeless service providers
to get an idea of where our very own community is at in terms of the homeless population
and their needs for housing and supportive services
The
PIT Count for this coming January will be held the night of 1/23/19
between the hours of 11pm-6am, in which teams will go out around in
Oshkosh The PIT Count is being organized by Sandra Reeves from ADVOCAP;
if you are interested in participating in the PIT Count contact Sandra
at sandrac@advocap.org . I know we are still in need of volunteers for the overnight PIT Count!
What is the PIT Community Resource Fair?
The
morning after the PIT Count on 1/24/19 from 9-11am, Day By Day Warming
Shelter holds a Community Resource Fair for those who are homeless or at
risk of homelessness.
This Community Resource Fair
includes a hot breakfast, free hair cuts, and many agencies with
information about their resources and programs that may be able to
assist participants.
I
have attached a flyer with the details about the resource fair that we
ask agencies that are able to post in their offices to invite and
encourage your clients in attending the Community Resource Fair. Clients
who may be homeless, at risk of homelessness, or living in extreme
poverty are welcome to attend. We will not turn any one away for the
Resource Fair.
Here are the details for the event:
PIT Community Resource Fair
Thursday, January 24th, 2019
9am-11am
Location: Most Blessed Sacrament Parish Gymnasium
449 High Ave
Oshkosh, WI 54901
We ask that agencies arrive by 8:45am to set up your table. Please RSVP to me at help@warmingshelter.com
if your agency will be present, so that a table can be reserved.
Agencies who do not RSVP may need to share a table. In the past we have
had more agencies than tables, so if you have no problem sharing a table
please let me know. A RSVP by Monday, January 21st would be greatly
appreciated.
We
expect around 50 participants for the Community Resource Fair, so feel
free to bring any pamphlets, brochures, candy, and giveaways to put out
on your table.
For
parking, please park on the street on High Ave versus the small parking
lot near the entrance of the shelter. There is also parking available
in the large main church parking lot where High Ave, Jackson St, and
Pearl St. meet, or the parking lot on Pearl St at the back entrance to
the shelter.
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me at help@warmingshelter.com .
We wish you a great day and a Happy New Year!
Thank you for all you do in the community to assist those in need,
